What's the right temperature to serve your wine?
Ice cold temperature ranges from 38-45°F
Cold temperature ranges from 45-55°F
Cellar temperature ranges from 55-60°F
Room temperature ranges from 60-68°F
Your wine might be served too cold if it’s lacking aroma and tastes sour. This is a common problem for white wines stored in the refrigerator. Cup bowl with your hands to warm your glass.
Your wine might be too hot if the aroma burns your nose and smells medicinal. This is common with higher alcohol red wines that are stored in ambient home temperatures. Cool the bottle for 15 minutes.
Wines quickly deteriorate when expose to oxygen of ambient home temperatures. So store open wines in a chiller at 50-55°F (10-13°C). If you don’t have a wine chiller, store open wines in your fridge and let them get cold for about an hour before serving.
The ideal storage temperature is 50-55°F and 75% humidity. Wine ages four times faster stored in a pantry or closet. Bottles stored in a variable temperature environments are also more likely to develop wine faults. So if you plan to age wine for longer than a year, look into purchasing a wine fridge or related cellaring solutions.
